Axis Mundi

World Music Ensemble

Axis Mundi, meaning "the world tree," is making its debut appearance at the Cedar on March 22. Founder and guitarist Glen Helgeson created the group to take to the stage his compositions and an ear-grabbing stew of acoustic guitar, percussion, violin, bass and drums. Axis Mundi branches out in eclectic styles of Pat Metheny-esque atmospheres; Latin, blues, and hip-hop grooves; Greek folk riffs; and Afro-Cuban Jazz. Axis Mundi plays true to the various styles with utter respect to the sources.

Joining guitarist/composer Helgeson are fiddle god, Gary Schulte; bassman extraordinaire, Charles Fletcher; stratospheric-jazz drummer Dave Stanoch; and world-groove master percussionists Marc Anderson, and Michael Bissonnette.
